| Oberstar: Federal aid to bring Minnesota jobs quickly by AP Staff writer Appearing in Duluth News Tribune on 2009-01-29. U.S. Rep. Jim Oberstar says the stimulus package approved by the U.S. House would put 12,000 Minnesotans to work on transportation and infrastructure projects by June. The Minnesota Democrat who chairs the House Transportation Committee says his home state is in line for nearly $685 million to spend on transportation and infrastructure projects. Projects need to be ready to start within 90 days. That would translate into almost 1,000 jobs in Northeastern Minnesota, 7,000 jobs in the Twin Cities metro area, and about 4,000 more jobs around the rest of the state. Oberstar released the numbers at a state Capitol news conference. He is also testifying today before a joint hearing of legislative transportation committees. |
